Desktop - rebuild the Desktop by holding down the COMMAND and OPTION keys as you boot the disk.  (All of your Get Info notes and folder names will disappear.)  Ever see the dialog box "This disk needs minor repairs ...."?  Click yes and Mac will rebuild the Desktop.  Some say rebuilding the Desktop will cure a balky or slow disk.
